In 1988, my Uncle Murrell was selected as artist of the year by the Louisiana Wild Turkey Federation. In 1997, he was commissioned by the National Wild Turkey Federation to do three paintings for their limited edition prints. This is one of them, "The Duel." It is 23 x 27
When I was a child living in St. Francisville, we often saw turkeys on our property, even right outside the windows of our house. They became a rare sighting until recently. Last weekend, we had two sightings of gobblers - a group of 3 by my parents' house, and a group of 6 at Oak Hill near Murrell's log cabin. My Dad told me that this time of year, the hens and the chicks stay together, and the gobblers wander around in groups.
